Lizzie Draper thoughts

Lizzie's favorite scripture she read this last week is found in 1 Nephi 20:18 it says "O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments then had they peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea. To Liz this scripture means if we keep the commandments we can have peace in our hearts. Liz loves the mountains and beautiful rivers, she liked how peace was compared to the rivers. We find great peace as a family in nature.

A Great Sunday

Mom and I skipped our church today.  We went out to Eagle Mountain to be with Travis Laursen, sustained today as bishop.  What a sweet meeting.  And thanks to Jacob for teaching our Sunday School class so that we could be with Travis.

He shared a really tender thought as he stood to accept the sustaining as the new bishop.

Travis described when he was called to be Elders Quorum President, a number of years ago.  He went home and was relaxing and happy that his Sunday was over when a frantic Relief Society President called.  A young man in the ward had died that day from a rock climbing accident in Moab.  She told Travis that she couldn't reach the Bishop or either of his counselors.  She couldn't get the HP group leader.  She was frantic and wanted a Priesthood leader to go to the family.

When he realized that he was it, Travis knelt down and told Heavenly Father he would go but he didn't know what to say or do.  He was too inexperienced.  He got up and walked around the corner to the family.  He knew, as they answered the door, that the Spirit was with him, and he went in and visited and gave each a blessing.  He told how the Spirit filled him with inspiration as he gave them blessings.

"Trust in the Lord and with all they heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."  Proverbs 3:5-6.

Love to all, and keep reading.  We love the Book of Mormon.

Lizzie's drawing of Lehi and the Liahona

Lizzie stopped by today and asked that we san in her drawing of Lehi and the liahona.

Read her comments about murmuring.

This is Megan (again)

I wanted to point out that Will hasn't posted anything yet.

Hey this is Megan

I'm reading about when Lehi's sons get married to Ishmael's daughters, and the liahona is leading their way into the wilderness. I think the liahona in our life is the Book of Mormon. It helps guide us so we can live with Heavenly Father again.

So it has been quiet here.

Chapter 11 of 1st Nephi is one of my favorites.  As I read it this week I was reminded of what a great prophet Nephi was - he was able to see the coming of the Lord centuries before it occurred.  I love his descriptions.

I keep hearing through various grapevines that many are reading - for which we are so pleased.  Josie was telling us that yesterday, after reading somewhere about Moroni, Ryan said that if he could see Moroni, he would high-five him.  Don't we all feel like that about all of the great Book of Mormon authors.

Thanks for making this such a success.

I am attaching a copy of the reading schedule.  I tried to lose my copy.

The Atonement

On Sunday, I had the rare opportunity to go to Relief Society for the first time in years.  Our lesson was on the Atonement, and it was really great.  I just wanted to share a little insight from a quote that was shared that touched me.  It said, "He died not for men, but for each man. If each man had been the only man made, He would have done no less." - CS Lewis
I Just love this because it makes the Atonement so personal.  He died to save us all, but more importantly, He would have still done it if I (or any of us) was the only one.  He died to save me. It makes me feel closer to Him, makes me want to try harder to be like Him, and makes my love for Him deeper and stronger.  It also helps me realize that each day I need to take advantage of the Atonement and the suffering the Savior did for me in order to repent. Even though my mistakes aren't huge, they are mistakes and still need to be reconciled, and I know I cannot do it alone. For that I am eternally grateful; because with out my Savior, I would not be able to live again with our sweet family, and trust me, I do not wan to miss out on that!! :)

Choose to Obey

One of the most powerful lessons of First Nephi is that we will do better when we obey.

As many of you do not have the Church News, there was a great editorial entitled "Choose to Obey".  It tells of a very interesting incident in Sierre Leone.  I attach a link to  the article here.  I love that First Nephi challenges us to be obedient.

And Grandma Becky and I are so happy that so many are reading - and writing.  We love the Book of Mormon.

PAPA T IS THE MAN

Wow, Austin!  Talk about laying me low!  Can't a man miss a day or two in writing on the blog.  Here is Lehi being chastised by Nephi.  You know how to do it.  But thanks for keeping us all in line.

We are excited that so many are serious about this scripture challenge.

Lizzie was over on Saturday and drew a picture of one thing she learned as she and her mother were reading, the story of the tree of life, the great and spacious building, and the filthy river.  Notice it is not blue, but brown.

So on Saturday many attended the baptism of our sweet, wonderful Gracie.  A photo of that also is attached.

I am reading!  How about you!

Love to all.

1 Nephi 2:17

Jake here: I feel that like it says in D&C 46:14 "To others it is given to believe on their words, that they also might have eternal life if they continue faithful." Sometimes I can feel the spirit and know that what someone is saying is true. And, that other times I need to challenge that feeling and find out for myself what the truth is.  Like Sam believed Nephi.

Testimony Meeting

This is Danielle. Easton got up today in Testimony meeting and bore his testimony of the Book of Mormon. He Talked about how he liked that even though Nephi was the youngest brother, he could still set a good example for his older brothers. I was impressed that he felt the desire to get up in front of everyone and express that. I am grateful that he is learning the importance of the scriptures.
Hi this is Jaiden, i'm reading second Nephi. But I really like how Nephi get's the plates and how he dressed in Labans cloths.

This is Austin. I guess Pops doesn't care about this project because I have not gotten a comment from him. I guess I'm out.

I'm reading

this is Megan.  I'm at 1 nephi chapter 9.  I don't know what my favorite part is.  I like all of it.  I really like the scripture that says I will go and do the things the lord commands and he will always help us.  Check in on the blog and let us know how you are doing.
